Kolkata, April 16 -- A clash broke out between TMC and BJP workers during the campaign of BJP candidate Ashok Kirtania in Bongaon on Thursday morning.
According to sources, Kirtania, along with his party workers, was campaigning for the upcoming Assembly elections when TMC workers allegedly created obstructions at several places. The BJP candidate alleged that TMC-backed supporters, led by local councillor Papai Raha, attacked them. As BJP workers retaliated, a clash ensued between the two groups. Kirtania also alleged that the attackers tore the 'achar mala' of some members of the Matua community.
Raha, however, claimed that the BJP candidate became agitated when some women questioned him, after which BJP workers allegedly attacked the women and TMC supporters.
Later, Kirtania, along with party leaders and workers, staged a sit-in protest in front of the Bongaon police station. The protest was withdrawn after police assured necessary action.
