
New Delhi, June 21 -- On June 20, the Bengal Mango Mela & Handloom-Handicrafts Expo 2026 was formally inaugurated at the Chittaranjan Park Bangiya Samaj in New Delhi. With the theme as 'Brand Bengal at the National Capital: Tradition, Taste, Tourism, Textiles & Togetherness', the event - organised by the Government of West Bengal as a flagship platform showcasing Bengal's culture, tourism, horticulture, handloom and handicraft sectors - will remain open till July 5, 2026.
June 20 is also the day of Paschim Banga Divas, which was observed at the event to commemorate the historic 1947 Bengal Legislative Assembly resolution supporting the formation of West Bengal within the Indian Union. Cultural presentations by Delhi-based Bengali artists were highlighted along with the mention of Bengal's role in India's freedom movement; literary, artistic and cultural heritage of the state and the bonds between Bengal and the Bengali diaspora in the national capital region.
The important dignitaries present at the inauguration event included Swami Sarvalokananda, Secretary, Ramakrishna Mission, New Delhi; Dushyant Nariala, IAS, Principal Resident Commissioner, Government of West Bengal and eminent guests, officials and members of the Bengali community in Delhi-NCR.
The '12th Bengal Mango Mela' presents three showcases, such as 'Mango Showcase' (with participation from six major mango-growing districts: Malda, Murshidabad, Nadia, Hooghly, Bankura and North 24 Parganas), 'GI-Tagged Bengal Mangoes Showcase' (Himsagar, Lakshmanbhog and Fazli) and 'Featured Varieties Showcase' (Langra, Amrapali, Mallika, Ranibhog, Begompasand, Rakhalbhog, Kanthali Dophola, Red Palmar, Banana Mango, Miyazaki, Changmai, Red Ivory and several other premium and exotic varieties.
Nine departments of the Government of West Bengal are also participating in the mela, including Food Processing Industries & Horticulture, MSME & Textiles, Self Help Group & Self Employment and others.
In the 'Handloom & Handicrafts' section, around 60 artisans and weavers are participating from different districts of West Bengal. Exhibitions of handloom products, traditional handicrafts, tribal products and GI-tagged Bengal products from the National, State and District Award-winning artisans are being showcased to the public.
The expo provides a dedicated 'Bengal Tourism Pavilion' presenting heritage destinations, spiritual circuits, nature tourism, cultural attractions, rural tourism opportunities, as well as traditional Bengali food and culinary experiences available for visitors.
On June 28 and July 5, special cultural programmes featuring artists from West Bengal and Delhi are also scheduled.
