New Delhi, Aug. 27 -- Kolkata; A platform of teaching and non-teaching employees in West Bengal on Thursday urged the state government to resolve the ongoing impasse over the Teachers' Eligibility Test (TET), seeking exemption for teachers appointed before August 23, 2010.
The teachers' group wrote to School Education Minister Dipak Burman, urging the state to approach the Centre for a solution to the issue.
The development comes amid protests by teachers who claim that repeated appeals and demonstrations have failed to elicit concrete action from either the state or the Centre.
On May 29, the Supreme Court ruled that clearing TET is mandatory for in-service teachers and extended the deadline for passing the examination to August 31, 2028, to remain in service.
According to the teachers' platform, the verdict affected nearly 90,000 primary and upper-primary teachers in West Bengal.
The group said many have served for 15-20 years and could lose government benefits linked to their service if they fail to clear the mandatory
