Kolkata, Sept. 4 -- A teacher of Holy Mission English Medium School in Kolkata has been suspended and an FIR registered against her for allegedly wiping off a student's sandalwood tilak, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said on Friday.
Adhikari had raised the issue on Thursday while attending the annual programme of Vivekananda Vidyavikash Parishad at Ramakrishna Mission in Golpark. He said wearing a tilak or tulsi beads was a matter of faith, tradition and custom in West Bengal.
On Friday, Adhikari identified the school and said the teacher had been suspended and an FIR registered against her.
The teacher had repeatedly harassed a student for wearing a sandalwood tilak to school and made him wash his face every day, Adhikari said.
Separately, the School Education Department suspended an employee of Bikash Bhavan for allegedly making an objectionable social media post about Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
"Such things will not be allowed in West Bengal now. Government employees cannot do this," Adhikari said.
