Kolkata, Oct. 27 -- The West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) is expected to resume pending interviews for secondary and higher secondary teacher recruitment in November, while the West Bengal Board of Primary Education (WBBPE) may restart primary teacher interviews in the second week of the month.
For classes XI-XII, the WBSSC revised its interview list following the reduction in the Other Backward Classes (OBC) quota from 17 per cent to 7 per cent. Around 2,780 candidates were removed and nearly 2,784 added without changing the total vacancies. Interviews for newly-included candidates began in October, with the remaining interviews expected in November. For classes IX-X, the commission has also revised the interview list, but the schedule for the interviews is yet to be announced.
WBBPE president Rabiranjan Sen said interviews for 13,421 primary teacher posts could resume in the second week of November. The process, which began on December 31, 2025, was disrupted after the Assembly election schedule was announced.
The board has clarified that completed interviews will remain valid. Candidates no longer eligible for OBC reservation need only correct their category details by October 31. Revised merit lists will use existing marks in Madhyamik, higher secondary, TET and interviews, applying the revised reservation criteria.
The Supreme Court, which cancelled the 2016 WBSSC recruitment panel in April 2025, has extended the deadline for completing fresh recruitment until May 31, 2027.
