New Delhi, Aug. 31 -- Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) and the Javelin Joint Venture (JJV), a partnership between Raytheon and Lockheed Martin, have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to co-produce the Javelin All Up Round (AUR) in India.
The agreement follows the Indian Army's recent signing of a letter of offer and acceptance to procure the Javelin anti-tank guided missile system from the United States through the Foreign Military Sales process. Under the MoU, TASL has been chosen as the JJV's prime partner for future in-country production. The two sides will explore setting up a facility in India for the final assembly and integration of the fully assembled Javelin missile, along with capabilities to manufacture components. The proposed local production is expected to expand opportunities for Indian defence companies, strengthen domestic manufacturing capabilities and create high-tech jobs. It is also aimed at improving supply-chain resilience and supporting the availability of the Javelin system in the Indo-Pacific region.
The Javelin is designed to engage a range of targets, including armoured vehicles and fortified positions, and is used by the US military as well as several other countries. The proposed co-production will also involve knowledge and assembly expertise being brought into India's defence ecosystem. According to TASL, local assembly of the Javelin AUR could strengthen self-reliance, improve operational readiness and enable timely access to the system for the Indian armed forces. The US State Department had approved the possible sale of the Javelin system to India in November 2025, following a request from New Delhi. The proposed acquisition includes 100 FGM-148 Javelin rounds, one fly-to-buy missile and 25 lightweight or Block 1 command launch units.
