Kolkata, Sept. 13 -- Former Trinamool Congress Mayor-in-Council member of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC), Tarak Singh, visited the BJP office in Salt Lake on Sunday and met senior BJP leader Sunil Bansal, triggering speculation that Singh, along with his former councillor son Amit Singh and daughter Krishna Singh, may join the BJP ahead of the KMC polls due in December.
Singh, however, said he had gone to meet Bansal to seek justice, alleging that he and his children had been harassed through fabricated cases.
"We have been framed in a number of cases and had to move court to obtain stays on police action. One case against me relates to land grabbing and is completely baseless. Since the BJP government came to power, there have been several attempts to heckle us. Even Krishna's party office was damaged," Singh said.
Krishna Singh was the councillor of Ward 116.
"We came to seek justice from the BJP top brass," Singh said.
Soon after the Assembly poll results were declared, Singh was among the first Trinamool leaders to speak out against party chairperson Mamata Banerjee and her nephew Abhishek Banerjee, alleging that the duo had failed to lead the party and protect its workers after the party's defeat in the polls.
Singh had earlier also met leaders of the Ritabrata camp, though he did not make anything official.
According to Singh, Bansal assured him that the complaints raised against him and his children would be verified.
Political observers, therefore, are not ruling out the possibility of Singh and his children joining the BJP, possibly to escape what he has described as police harassment.
