Suvendu to visit three North Bengal districts on Tuesday

New Delhi, Sept. 21 -- Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari is scheduled to visit Cooch Behar, Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar on Tuesday, marking his first visit to the Alipurduar and Cooch Behar districts since taking charge as Chief Minister.

According to administrative sources, Adhikari will arrive at Cooch Behar Airport by helicopter from Siliguri and travel to the historic Madan Mohan Temple. After offering puja, he will attend an administrative meeting at Rabindra Bhavan, where senior officials, district legislators and representatives of various departments are expected to participate. Development projects and key administrative issues are likely to be reviewed.

The Chief Minister will then travel to Jalpaiguri's Matiali block to inaugurate a newly constructed bridge over the Murti River. The old bridge was demolished in 2021 after becoming weak. The new bridge has been constructed by the Public Works Department at a cost of around Rs 16 crore.

From Matiali, Adhikari will travel to Alipurduar's Kalchini area to attend a Forest Department programme at the Subhashini Tea Garden ground in Hasimara on World Rhino Day.

The programme will feature the destruction of wildlife body parts seized by the Forest Department, including elephant tusks, rhino horns, deer antlers, leopard skins and pangolin scales. More than 1,500 school students from across Alipurduar are expected to witness the programme.

Forest Minister Manoj Oraon said: "The Chief Minister will come to the Subhashini Tea Garden ground in the afternoon. The Chief Minister will also hold a separate meeting with the Forest Department on the stage set up at the Subhashini ground."

He added: "Wildlife body parts are of no use to human beings. They have value only to poachers. Some people carry wildlife body parts on their bodies simply because of superstition."

According to Forest Department sources, Adhikari's proposed visit to Jaldapara after the Subhashini programme has been cancelled for the time being.
