Kolkata, Sept. 18 -- Calling the TMC crisis a "result of arrogance" and "Lord Ram's curse", Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Friday blamed former CM Mamata Banerjee for the loss of the party's name and symbol. He denied any BJP role in the Election Commission's decision to freeze them, saying the TMC disintegrated because of arrogance.
"TMC has met this fate due to the curse of Lord Ram. Calling the Hindu faith a 'Gonda Dharma' (a derogatory term), labelling the Maha Kumbh as 'Mrityu Kumbh' (Death Kumbh), and organising a rally on the day of the Ram Mandir inauguration saying 'we do not accept the Ram Mandir'-everything has been destroyed by the curse of Lord Purushottam Ramchandra Maharaj," Adhikari said.
The Chief Minister also clarified that the BJP has not played any role in TMC disintegration. "I won't comment much on this matter. The Election Commission took the decision in accordance with the rules and after hearing all parties. She (Mamata) failed to keep her party united. The party has split into three or four factions, and the responsibility for that lies with her. The BJP has no direct role in this," he added.
Citing a Sanskrit proverb, Adhikari said: "The reason is 'Ati darpe hata Lanka (Excessive arrogance destroyed Lanka). God shatters the arrogance of those who are boastful. The Almighty exists."
In reaction to the freezing of the party symbol, BJP Rajya Sabha MP and state party president Samik Bhattacharya also slammed Mamata Banerjee, saying that TMC is finished.
"There is no party called TMC. It is dead. It is the justice of the Almighty. TMC had given a diktat that vermilions could not be sold if the images of the lotus were there in the package. This diktat was given in several parts of North 24-Parganas," he said.
