Siliguri, May 13 -- A youth suspected to be a Bangladeshi national was arrested after allegedly entering the Bangdubi Army Cantonment area in Bagdogra.
According to sources, the incident took place on Tuesday evening when the youth reportedly entered the highly restricted military area. He was caught red-handed by the Army's Quick Response Team (QRT) while attempting to enter a railway coach stationed inside the cantonment premises.
During preliminary questioning, the youth identified himself as Kaushik Biswas. However, he failed to produce any valid identity proof or mobile phone, raising suspicion among Army personnel. Subsequently, the Army handed him over to the Bagdogra police for further investigation.
Police said that during interrogation, the accused claimed that he had fled from a relative's house in North 24-Parganas and somehow reached Bagdogra. However, due to his suspicious movements and inability to provide proper identification, he was arrested. The accused was produced before the Siliguri court on Wednesday.
The incident has also raised concerns among Army intelligence officials regarding how the youth managed to enter the restricted cantonment area despite strict security measures. Notably, Bangladeshi nationals had allegedly been arrested earlier from the Bangdubi military area as well.
