New Delhi, Sept. 9 -- Delhi Police has directed all Station House Officers and Assistant Commissioners of Police to regularly interact with college students and those living in PGs, rented and other accommodations to address their security concerns.
The order was issued on September 9 following directions from Delhi Lieutenant Governor Sardar TS Sandhu to strengthen police outreach and confidence building among the student community. The concerned officers, particularly in areas with a significant concentration of colleges, universities, student accommodations and PG facilities, have been asked to undertake structured and proactive interactions with students within their respective jurisdictions. The Delhi Police has also been directed to submit an Action Taken Report (ATR) on the exercise by September 20, 2026. During these interactions, police officials will listen to and identify the security and safety concerns of students and assess local issues related to crime, harassment, women's safety, accommodation related concerns and other matters affecting their sense of security. The officers have been directed to take prompt corrective and preventive measures on issues falling within the jurisdiction and mandate of the local police. Wherever intervention from other civic agencies is required, they will coordinate with the concerned departments or agencies.
The exercise has been directed to be carried out in a purposeful and responsive manner, with emphasis on establishing direct communication between local police and the student community and creating greater confidence in the availability and accessibility of police assistance. The L-G has also directed Delhi Police to publicise the initiative through its official social media platforms and other suitable channels as a police outreach effort towards college students and youths residing in PGs and rented accommodations. The publicity, however, has been directed to strictly reflect substantive field engagement and meaningful follow up.
