Kolkata, Oct. 30 -- The state government has decided to provide government jobs to one eligible member of every family that lost a relative to political violence over the past 25 years. The proposal has reportedly received the state Cabinet's approval as well as clearance from the Law department.
The scheme is expected to cover victims of election-related and post-poll violence during both the 10-year Left Front regime and the subsequent 15 years of Trinamool Congress rule. Families affected by violence during Lok Sabha, Assembly and three-tier Panchayat elections will be eligible for consideration.
Nabanna sources said the government will soon issue a notification inviting applications from affected families. Applicants will have to approach their respective DMs with documents establishing the circumstances and cause of the deceased's death. DMs will scrutinise the claims, backed by police reports and administrative verification, before finalising eligible beneficiaries.
The state government has decided to provide a one-time grant of Rs 5 lakh to the families of Anganwadi workers and helpers for death within 65 years. A notification announcing the decision has been issued.
