Kolkata, Sept. 11 -- The state government has notified the replacement of the existing ward schedule of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC), setting out the territorial boundaries of all 209 wards under the civic body's expanded structure.
The Urban Development and Municipal Affairs Department issued the notification on September 11, with the Governor, exercising powers under Section 60I of the KMC Act, 1980 and acting on the recommendation of the Corporation, approving the amendment. The notification directs that the existing Schedule II of the Act be substituted with a new Schedule II titled "Wards of the Corporation".
The move follows the KMC (Amendment) Act, 2026, under which the number of KMC wards was increased from 144 to 209. The latest notification sets out the territorial boundaries of the revised structure, detailing the limits of each of the 209 wards.
The 33-page schedule specifies the north, south, east and west boundaries of every ward. Roads, railway lines, canals, rivers and mouza boundaries have been used for demarcation. In several areas, particularly in the southern and southwestern parts, the boundaries are also identified through specific plot or dag numbers.
The new schedule covers wards whose boundaries extend through areas including Kalikapur, Mukundapur, Jadavpur, Tollygunge, Behala, Sarsuna, Bansdroni, Hanspukuria, Joka, Kamdhari and Brahmapur.
Copies of the notification have been forwarded to the West Bengal State Election Commission and the KMC.
