Kolkata, Aug. 28 -- The state Cabinet has approved a simplified and enhanced "Composite Transfer and Packing Grant" for state government employees, replacing the long-standing system of transfer grants and packing allowances.
Under the revised system, employees will be entitled to a lump-sum grant of up to Rs 50,000 or 80% of their basic pay, whichever is lower, without having to submit receipts. For transfers involving relocation over a distance of 30 kilometres or more, employees will receive the full rate, while transfers involving distances of less than 30 kilometres will attract one-third of the full rate.
The revised provisions will come into effect from June 1, 2026, for transfers and from May 31, 2026, for retirements.
The benefit has also been extended to retiring employees who choose to settle in a new location.
CM announced the decision through a post on his social media handle, describing it as a measure to provide financial relief and improve the welfare of government employees.
"I am pleased to share that the State Cabinet has approved the introduction of a simplified and enhanced 'Composite Transfer and Packing Grant,' replacing the decades-old transfer grant and packing allowance system. This includes financial relief providing a lump sum grant of up to '50,000 or 80% of basic pay, sanctioned without requiring receipts, along with coverage providing the full rate for transfers of 30 km or more involving relocation and one-third of the rate for transfers under 30 km," Adhikari wrote on X.
He added: "The West Bengal government remains steadfast in its commitment to the welfare and well-being of our dedicated state government employees, who work tirelessly to serve the people of West Bengal."
"Retirement support has been extended to retiring employees settling in a new location, with the timeline effective from June 1, 2026, for transfers, and May 31, 2026, for retirements," Adhikari added.
