Kolkata, May 11 -- State BJP president Samik Bhattacharya on Monday asserted that there would be a clear distinction between the functioning of the new state government and the party organisation.

After a meeting with Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari at the BJP state headquarters in Salt Lake, Bhattacharya said the new administration would function as a "West Bengal government" in the true sense and not merely as a BJP government.

"The government will function like a government and the party will run like a party. This is a promise," Bhattacharya said, adding that the party would not interfere in the functioning of the state government. He stressed that the administration would operate independently without political pressure.

Speaking to media persons in the presence of the Chief Minister, the BJP state president said the party's role would be limited to

coordinating with the government to ensure implementation of commitments made in the party's pre-election Sankalp Patra.

Adhikari and Bhattacharya arrived at the BJP headquarters on Monday morning for an organisational meeting after the Chief Minister

visited Bhattacharya's residence around 9.30 am. Both leaders later travelled to the party office in the same car.

At the party office, Adhikari was felicitated by the BJP women's wing and

presented with a miniature Durga idol. Following the 20-minute meeting, the Chief Minister left for Nabanna, where he chaired the first Cabinet meeting of the new government.
