Malda, Sept. 29 -- South Malda BJP district president Ajay Ganguli in an open letter on social media has appealed to West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari to take the initiative to establish a state-of-the-art heart, neuro and cancer hospital in Malda under a public-private partnership (PPP) model.
Ganguli highlighted the importance of Malda Medical College and Hospital as a major healthcare centre for people from a large geographical area.
In his letter, Ganguli said Malda is the "gateway to North Bengal" and that, besides Malda, patients from parts of Bihar, Jharkhand, North and South Dinajpur and Murshidabad also come to Malda for treatment.
Speaking about his appeal, Ganguli said, "People from a vast area depend on Malda for healthcare.
For advanced treatment of heart disease, neurological disorders and cancer, many patients still have to travel to Kolkata or outside the state."
He urged the Chief Minister to facilitate the establishment of a modern facility where these three specialised services would be available under one roof.
"If the government takes the initiative and the business community extends its cooperation, a modern heart, neuro and cancer hospital can be developed in Malda under the PPP model," Ganguli said. He added that such a facility would significantly reduce the burden on patients and their families.
