Balurghat, Oct. 8 -- In a major boost to the district's public health infrastructure, 11 dedicated teams comprising 'My Bharat' volunteers and NCC cadets have been deployed across South Dinajpur to support the ongoing tuberculosis (TB) eradication drive. Launched on Thursday in Balurghat through a district-level workshop titled 'Importance of Teams in the TB-Free Campaign,' the initiative aims to strengthen community awareness, improve high-risk individual identification and ensure seamless coordination with local health workers.

Operating across eight blocks and three municipalities, each of the 11 teams consists of five NCC cadets, five volunteers and one leading officer. The young representatives will undergo comprehensive training conducted jointly by Block Development Officers and the Health department to enhance their capacity in field data collection, risk assessment and household outreach alongside local ASHA workers.

Inaugurating the workshop, Chief Medical Officer of Health Sudip Das highlighted the crucial role of community involvement in public healthcare drives. "Public health is a public initiative in the public interest. It is a programme based on people's participation. The greater the participation of people, the more successful health-related programmes will be," he said.

District officials remain confident that this unified administrative and youth-led effort will accelerate South Dinajpur's progress.
