Gorakhpur (UP), Sept. 23 -- Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday said social media had introduced "half-truth", a new category between truth and falsehood.
The chief minister said, "Social media had introduced a new category between truth and falsehood, the half-truth. It could never be considered the complete truth."
Addressing devotees at Gorakhnath temple after inaugurating the Shrimad Bhagwat Mahapurana Katha Gyan Yajna, Adityanath said humanity across the world was facing challenges and suffering from depression and confusion.
"Despite advances in science, humanity looks towards India for lasting peace. The tradition of sacred religious narratives in India has helped people navigate difficult circumstances and also provides an opportunity to understand the country's thousands-year-old heritage," he said.
Adityanath said harmony between a person's thoughts, words and actions was essential for success.
When there was a mismatch between the three, it created confusion about what one should or should not do, he said, adding that "The Shrimad Bhagwat Katha helps dispel this confusion.
The Yajna was organised as part of the 57th death anniversary observance of Mahant Digvijaynath and the 12th death anniversary of Mahant Avaidyanath.
Welcoming the Katha Vyas, Malook Peethadhishwar Rajendra Das Maharaj, he said the tradition of listening to and reciting the Shrimad Bhagwat Mahapurana was around 5,000 years old.
The scripture inspires devotees towards knowledge, devotion and selfless action and helps them understand the purpose and mysteries of life, he said.
The discourse, being delivered by Rajendra Das Maharaj of Vrindavan, will be held daily from 3-6 pm and will conclude on September 29.
An Akhand Jyoti was lit at the venue, following which the chief minister and other yajmans performed puja of the Vyaspeeth and Katha Vyas.
