NEW DELHI, May 11 -- The Delhi Police Crime Branch has arrested six alleged sharpshooters and operatives linked to the notorious Rashid Cable Wala and Hashim Baba gangs under "Operation Gang Bust 2.0".
The accused were identified as Faiz Qureshi, Maaz, Nawajish, Affak, Imran alias Teli and Arshad alias Chota, all residents of northeast Delhi.
Police recovered 10 illegal firearms, including nine sophisticated pistols and a .312 bore rifle, along with 81 live cartridges. A Maruti Baleno car allegedly used by the gang members was also seized.
The operation was carried out by a Crime Branch team led by Inspector Prakash Chand under the supervision of ACP Raj Kumar and DCP Harsh Indora.
Acting on specific intelligence received on May 6, police learnt that operatives linked to fugitive gangster Rashid Cable Wala and jailed gangster Hashim Baba had assembled at a lounge in Karol Bagh. Owing to the heavy public presence inside the establishment, police maintained surveillance outside and apprehended four suspects at around 4.05 am as they exited the premises.
According to police, four illegal pistols, including two Italy-made Beretta pistols, and 32 live cartridges were recovered from their vehicle.
Further interrogation and follow-up raids led to the arrest of two more gang members and additional recoveries of weapons and incriminating material.
Investigators said the accused were allegedly in direct contact with Rashid Cable Wala through the encrypted Signal application and were involved in betting, extortion and armed criminal activities.
Police said Rashid, wanted in multiple murder and extortion cases, is believed to be operating from Dubai, while Hashim Baba is currently lodged in Tihar Jail. Efforts are underway to identify illegal arms suppliers and dismantle the wider gang network operating in Delhi.
