Raiganj, April 20 -- At least six persons were killed and four others critically injured in two separate road accidents in North Dinajpur district early Monday morning. The injured are currently undergoing treatment at Raiganj Government Medical College & Hospital.

A stone-laden lorry heading towards Siliguri rammed into the rear of a paddy-laden truck on National Highway 12 at Mahadebpur in Raiganj. The driver of the stone-laden vehicle, identified as Manjarul of Islampur (38), died on the spot. Shortly after, an ambulance from the National Highway Authority of India rushed to the scene but collided with another speeding lorry at the same location. The ambulance staff, Subal Sarkar (35), was killed instantly. An unidentified person present at the site also lost his life. Four others were also injured.

On the other hand, a pick-up van carrying goods for a village fair crashed into an abandoned roadside shop at Bangar under Itahar police station. Three passengers died on the spot. Their identities are yet to be confirmed. A senior police official stated that an investigation into both accidents has been initiated.
