New delhi, Aug. 5 -- The Delhi Police Cyber Cell has arrested six people for allegedly running a call centre involved in investment fraud, officials said. The arrests followed complaints registered on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal.
Police seized 28 CPUs, 25 mobile phones, two Wi-Fi devices, a DVR and an audio-video camera during raids at the centre in Indore. More than 1,400 worksheets containing investors' personal and financial details were also recovered.
The racket has allegedly been linked to cyber fraud complaints across several states involving losses of more than Rs 54.70 lakh. In one case, a Delhi-based investor was allegedly cheated of Rs 17.30 lakh after being lured into online trading through false promises of profits.
Police said the complainant, Sunil Kumar of Uttam Nagar, approached the Dwarka Cyber Police Station on July 5, alleging that he had deposited Rs 17,30,050 into a fraudulent trading platform since March 30. When he attempted to withdraw the money, the accused allegedly showed him fabricated trading statements and losses.
The arrested accused, all residents of Indore, have been identified as Sumit Singh Choudhary, Rahul Singh, Ashwini Kumar, Mahesh Singh, Piyush Rathore and Ravinder Singh Chauhan. Police said they allegedly posed as employees and team leaders, earning salaries of up to Rs 14,500 a month along with 10 per cent of the amounts defrauded.
Investigators said the syndicate allegedly purchased lists of stock market investors from illegal sources, gained their trust through Indian stock trading and then directed them to a fake international forex platform. Police said efforts were underway to arrest the alleged mastermind and other accomplices.
