Kolkata, Sept. 17 -- The Special Investigation Team (SIT) that was probing the eight-year-old double murder case of CPI(M) worker Debaorasad Das and his wife Usharani Das, on Wednesday submitted a chargesheet in the Kakdwip Sub-Divisional Court, mentioning the names of 10 TMC leaders and workers.
The investigation has conclusively rejected the initial claim mentioned in the local police reports that suggested the death of the CPI(M) worker and his wife was accidental. The SIT has ruled out the accident angle and described the incident as a deliberate and politically motivated act of terror.
According to sources, the SIT in its chargesheet mentioned that the victims were locked inside their home in Budhakhali, Kakdwip and burnt alive on the night of May 13, 2018, just hours before the panchayat polling began. The investigation team, led by IPS officer Murlidhar, stated in the chargesheet that the crime was entirely preplanned.
Investigators established that the primary motive behind the attack was to establish absolute political control and land dominance.
