Darjeeling, Oct. 28 -- The 159th birth anniversary of Sister Nivedita was observed with prayers, devotional songs and a cake-cutting ceremony at Ramakrishna Mission Nivedita Educational and Cultural Centre, Roy Villa, Darjeeling.

The programme was attended by Swami Mahatapanandaji Maharaj, Secretary of Ramakrishna Mission Darjeeling, and Swami Biswadharanandaji Maharaj, Secretary of Ramakrishna Mission Siliguri. Swami Mahatapanandaji said Darjeeling shared a deep bond with Sister Nivedita, who visited the hill town seven times and spent her final days at Roy Villa. She passed away on October 13, 1911, and her ashes rest at the Darjeeling crematorium, where a marble plaque reads: "Here repose the ashes of Sister Nivedita, who gave her all to India."

Roy Villa was handed over to the Ramakrishna Mission by the Bengal government on July 10, 2013. It now serves as an educational and cultural centre and a memorial to Sister Nivedita, whose life of dedication and service continues to inspire generations.
