Siliguri, May 25 -- BJP MLA Shankar Ghosh on Monday emphasised the urgent need to expand infrastructure at Siliguri District Hospital following a meeting of the Rogi Kalyan Samiti attended by the MLA for the first time. The discussion focused on improving healthcare services and addressing operational challenges faced by the hospital.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Ghosh said the shortage of space within the hospital has become a major concern, particularly in light of the Chief Minister's directive that patients will not be admitted if beds are unavailable and treatment on the floor will not be allowed.

"The lack of adequate space is one of the primary reasons behind the current challenges. Alternative plans will be prepared and submitted to the Health Department soon," Ghosh stated. He added that discussions would continue on increasing the hospital's capacity and that recommendations would be forwarded to the Chief Minister. The MLA also pointed out that several posts in the hospital remain vacant and assured that recruitment would be expedited. Ghosh further said that stricter discipline would be enforced, including mandatory identity cards for employees and ensuring regular attendance of hospital staff. He also warned of legal action against individuals allegedly involved in corruption during the previous administration.
