
Siliguri, Aug. 25 -- Two Bangladeshi nationals were arrested from the Panitanki area near the Indo-Nepal border on Monday night for allegedly entering India illegally. The arrested persons have been identified as Mohammad Rafique and Mohammad Zubir, both residents of Chattogram, Bangladesh.
According to police sources, the duo were found roaming suspiciously near the Panitanki market area, following which police detained them. During questioning, they allegedly admitted to being Bangladeshi nationals and entering India without valid documents.
Police said further interrogation revealed that the two had entered India through the Bangladesh-Tripura border before making their way to Panitanki.
Bangladeshi identity cards were found from their possession. They told the police that they came here to find jobs.
The accused were produced before the Siliguri court on Tuesday.
They are expected to be shifted to the Bidhan Nagar holding centre. Thereafter, they are expected to be returned to Bangladesh.
Police have launched an investigation to determine their route of entry and the circumstances surrounding their stay in the area.
