New Delhi, Oct. 30 -- Rajya Sabha member Kapil Sibal on Friday mocked the BJP over its showing in the recent Legislative Council elections. He said the party was celebrating the Congress winning a single seat while losing ground in its own bastions. Listing what he called defeats in Ayodhya, Mathura, Varanasi, Gorakhpur and Nagpur, Sibal said, "Fadnavis sahab should be a little nervous. This is only the beginning."

The INDIA bloc is holding a public impeachment proceeding against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar on Saturday. Sibal said Kumar already "stands impeached in the minds of the people of this country". He accused the Centre of using the electoral roll revision to strike off Muslim voters. He said the "infiltrator" campaign had turned up only about 1,600 cases across six states, and those were from Nepal.
