India, July 9 -- Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu on Wednesday reviewed passenger facilitation, security measures and immigration system at major airports. They directed that airport infrastructure must be upgraded and modernised while ensuring the highest standards of security. The Union Home Minister and Civil Aviation Minister were accompanied by the Home Secretary, Intelligence Bureau chief, Civil Aviation Secretary, CISF DG, AAi Chairman and senior officials of the Home Ministry and Civil Aviation Ministry during the meeting. Union Home Minister Amit Shah directed that Automated X-ray Tray Return System (ATRS) must be installed at airports on a priority basis to ease the functioning and reduce manpower. He also asked the Civil Aviation Ministry to make Automated X-ray Tray Return (ATR) a mandatory requirement while constructing new airports. Also Read - WhatsApp's reply on 'username' notice due today: IT Secretary Home Minister further directed that a uniform framework for seamless passenger movement encompassing entry gates, check-in, security screening, and immigration counters should be evolved to de-congest these counters. He further directed that 62 airports, including 21 being commissioned and 41 existing, have been identified based on traffic and security inputs from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) for modernisation and upgrading works. He asked for expedited completion of the identified projects for strengthening and upgradation of the infrastructure of 21 airports which are currently under construction and 41 other airports, including those with heavy passenger traffic. Shah also sought a uniform policy on the number of aerobridges to be constructed at different airports based on their passenger and aircraft traffic.
