India, Aug. 21 -- A rescue operation was launched in northeast Delhi's Welcome area on Thursday after an 8-10-year-old child was reportedly seen drowning in a drain near Jafrabad Metro Station, close to Idgah. The child has not yet been located. Police said they received a complaint at Welcome police station regarding the incident, which was reported to have occurred on the afternoon of August 20. Shadaw Ali, 30, a resident of Janata Mazdoor Colony, told police that an unidentified child had allegedly fallen into the drain and disappeared. Four divers from DM (East) searched the drain and sewerage channel six to seven times using Rescue Boat No. 4, but found no trace of the child. A Delhi Fire Services team and a CATS ambulance also reached the spot. Police said they found no missing-person complaint matching the child's description so far. Announcements were made at nearby mosques and temples to identify the child, while authorities verified the complaint and investigated the alleged drowning.
