Kolkata, Nov. 4 -- The West Bengal School Education department has directed all government offices under its administrative control to display the officially approved photograph of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose at a prominent location on their premises.
Welcoming the move, School Education minister Dipak Barman said: "It would have been better if this had been done earlier. Better late than never," Barman said, clarifying that the instruction did not mean that district offices did not already have Netaji's photograph.
The Directorate of School Education issued a communication on November 3, asking District Inspectors of Schools (Secondary Education and Primary Education) across all districts to collect the approved photograph from Uttirno in Alipore, Kolkata, and ensure that it is displayed at a prominent and appropriate location in their respective offices.
The District Inspectors have also been instructed to issue necessary directions to all subordinate offices under their jurisdiction to ensure compliance with the directive.
Explaining the reference to an 'approved photograph', Barman said that, as far as he knew, the Speaker of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly had sought a photograph of Netaji from his family for display in the offices of legislators. The family had selected a particular photograph, which, he suggested, could be the one referred
to as the approved photograph in the directive.
