Kolkata, Oct. 7 -- The Supreme Court on Wednesday declined to interfere with the Calcutta High Court's decision granting interim bail to Congress candidate Milan Pradhan, allowing him to campaign in the Nandigram Assembly by-election and participate in the counting process.
A three-judge bench made it clear that the interim relief was limited in scope and would remain in force until October 20.
The court, however, left the door open for the Bengal government to oppose any request by Pradhan for an extension of the relief.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the state, was permitted to advance the government's objections before the High Court if such a request is made.
