India, July 28 -- Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) councillor Satya Sharma was re-elected unopposed as the Chairperson of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi's (MCD) Standing Committee, while BJP councillor Satyapal Singh was elected unopposed as the Deputy Chairperson. The election was held at the MCD headquarters at the Civic Centre. Sharma represents Ward No. 226 (Gautampuri), while Singh is the councillor from Ward No. 248 (Karawal Nagar West). Addressing the media after her election, Sharma said her priorities for the new term would revolve around five key areas Clean Delhi, Healthy Delhi, Educated Delhi, Good Governance and a Strong MCD. She said the civic body would focus on improving sanitation services, strengthening solid waste management, upgrading healthcare facilities in MCD hospitals and dispensaries, enhancing infrastructure in municipal schools, and promoting transparent and technology-driven governance.
She also emphasised the need to strengthen the MCD financially and administratively to ensure efficient delivery of civic services. Sharma said the Standing Committee would continue to function as a democratic platform where councillors from both the ruling party and the Opposition would be given equal opportunities to present their views. She added that decisions would be guided by public interest and constructive discussion. Among her immediate priorities, she said, is the implementation of commitments made by the BJP during the 2022 MCD elections, along with the timely execution of development projects and welfare schemes approved in the previous Standing Committee Budget. Sharma said legacy waste at Bhalswa, Okhla and Ghazipur landfill sites was steadily reducing, while sanitation, roads and parks would remain priorities. She credited timely Delhi government funding for regular salary payments and urged councillors, officials and residents to work together for transparent, efficient and citizen-centric civic governance.
