Chandigarh, July 31 -- Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Friday launched a sharp attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab, asking Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to disclose how many of the party's pre-poll promises had been fulfilled with only about four months left before the next Assembly elections in the state.

Addressing a function organised in Sanaur to mark the 87th martyrdom day of Shaheed Udham Singh, Saini said the people of Punjab had a right to know the status of the AAP government's electoral commitments. Referring to a speaker's claim that only 30 per cent of the promises had been fulfilled, he questioned whether the Mann government would be able to deliver on the remaining commitments within the limited time left.

Taking a swipe at the AAP government, Saini said development is driven not by slogans but by intent and commitment. He also targeted the Punjab government over alleged irregularities in the recruitment of excise inspectors, calling it a grave injustice to deserving youth.

Drawing a comparison with the BJP government's performance in Haryana, Saini said the party had made 217 "Sankalps" during the 2024 Assembly elections, of which 70 had already been fulfilled within one-and-a-half years. The remaining 147 promises, he added, would also be implemented soon.

Highlighting the BJP-led Centre's development agenda, Saini said that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, India was achieving rapid progress while preserving its rich cultural heritage. He said the Haryana government was working with the same vision and had launched several welfare initiatives for farmers, women and youth.

Paying tribute to Shaheed Udham Singh, Saini said the legendary revolutionary dedicated his life to the nation and avenged the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre by assassinating Michael O'Dwyer in London in 1940. Urging Punjabis to draw inspiration from Udham Singh's determination, he said a united Punjab could transform the state's future.

Earlier in the day, Saini also paid floral tributes to the martyr at his official residence in Chandigarh.
