Chandigarh, May 24 -- Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Sunday announced a series of initiatives in honour of Maharishi Kashyap, including allotment of land for the construction of a dharamshala in Kaithal and installation of a grand statue at a chowk in Indri to be named after the revered sage. He also announced that adequate funds would be provided for establishing a Maharishi Kashyap Chair at Kurukshetra University.
The Chief Minister made these announcements while addressing a state-level function organised on the occasion of Maharishi Kashyap Jayanti at Sant Kabir Kutir in Chandigarh.
Paying tribute to Maharishi Kashyap, Saini described him as a great philanthropist and protector of society who guided people through scriptures such as the Kashyap Samhita and Smriti Granth. Highlighting the historical contribution of the Kashyap community, he said figures such as King Nishad during the Ramayana era and Bhakt Prahlad belonged to the community. He also recalled that Bhai Himmat Singh Kashyap Ji, one of the Panj Pyare of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, hailed from the same community.
Describing the Kashyap community as brave, hardworking and self-respecting, Saini said the community possessed immense potential and could play a significant role in nation-building. He also urged people to keep their children away from social evils, especially drug addiction.
Targeting the opposition, the Chief Minister said opposition parties were "issue-less" and spreading misinformation after being rejected by the people. He said the Haryana government was committed to ensuring welfare schemes reached backward classes and every section of society under the principle of "Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas".
MLA Ram Kumar Kashyap said the community had planned a grand event in Kaithal but opted for a smaller gathering in view of fuel shortages caused by ongoing global conflicts and appeals to conserve petrol and diesel.
