Kolkata, July 10 -- In a shocking revelation, the Special Public Prosecutor in the case against former Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Chairman Sabyasachi Dutta claimed before the Bidhannagar Court that the TMC leader had forcefully occupied an elderly citizen's house in Salt Lake's AE Block to run an alleged extortion racket.
According to sources, an 86-year-old man recently approached the police and alleged that Dutta had grabbed his house and demanded Rs 46 lakh. When the owner initially refused to pay, Dutta allegedly used a rickshaw puller and a puffed rice seller to occupy the property.
Later, having no other option, the elderly man allegedly paid Rs 46 lakh through the rickshaw puller and the puffed rice seller, following which the house was vacated.
Apart from this, Dutta allegedly took Rs 7 lakh from another person on the pretext of arranging a job.
On Wednesday, when Dutta was produced before the Bidhannagar ACJM Court, the defence counsel sought bail for the TMC leader. However, after the Special Public Prosecutor placed the newly discovered facts before the court, the bail plea was rejected and Dutta was remanded to judicial custody for a further 14 days.
