Kolkata, Sept. 9 -- On Wednesday, Ruby General Hospital added another milestone to its 31 years of public healthcare services, announcing a major expansion of its surgical infrastructure with six state-of-the-art modular Operating Theatres (OTs), including two dedicated transplant OTs and two advanced Robotic Surgery OTs. The expansion comes in addition to the hospital's existing five super-speciality OTs, taking the total capacity to 11 highly specialised surgical suites.

Alongside the infrastructure expansion, the hospital inaugurated two cutting-edge robotic systems, the Orthopaedic Total Knee Replacement (TKR) Robotic Surgery system and the globally renowned Da Vinci Robotic Surgical System for general and advanced surgical procedures. The systems were inaugurated by Dr Kamal Kumar Dutta, Chairman and Managing Director; Dr Sourav Dutta, Director; and Ruby Dutta, Director.

Taking the gathering at the press meet through the hospital's journey from its inauguration in 1995 to its present state-of-the-art infrastructure, Dr Kamal Dutta informed how OTs have evolved over the years and said that Ruby is integrating its OTs with the latest technologies to reduce potential risks in treatment.

Dr Dutta said robotic surgery is the need of the hour as it is more precise, enables minimally invasive procedures, results in less pain and fewer infections, and facilitates faster patient recovery. The Chairman also took pride in the fact that his hospital is the only healthcare institute in eastern India with a dedicated dirty corridor. Director Dr Sourav added that the integration of AI and robotics into the OTs ensures maximum patient safety and shortens hospital stays.

The inauguration was also attended by eminent medical experts, including Dr Pratik Das, a well-known nephrologist, who spoke about the increasing number of kidney transplants in Kolkata, and Dr TK Saha, renowned transplant surgeon.

Meanwhile, the hospital felicitated 31-year-old Paromita Mondal, who was the first patient to undergo Da Vinci Robotic System-assisted surgery.
