
New Delhi, Oct. 1 -- The DDA Sports Complex in Sector 33, Rohini, was inaugurated on Wednesday by Delhi Lieutenant Governor Sardar Taranjit Singh Sandhu, adding a range of indoor and outdoor sporting facilities for residents of Rohini, Outer Delhi and adjoining areas of North West Delhi. The L-G also laid the foundation stone for an Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Station at the complex and announced the L-G Cup for Hockey, which will be held from October 9 to 18. The tournament is aimed at encouraging young athletes and promoting greater participation in team sports such as hockey.
Spread over approximately 8.11 hectares, the complex has a built up area of around 10,974 sqm. Its outdoor facilities include six lawn tennis synthetic courts, two basketball synthetic courts, netball and volleyball courts, a skating rink, a natural turf cricket ground, two cricket practice nets with clay pitches, a football cum hockey ground and a jogging track. The indoor section has facilities for table tennis, yoga, aerobics and gymnasium, besides multipurpose halls, a conference hall, reception and waiting hall and a first aid room. The complex also has a pro shop, around 1.3 km of internal peripheral road and parking for 155 ECS.
The facility will initially operate on a Pay & Play basis, while memberships will subsequently be invited/opened. More facilities are planned, including a Gym/Fitness Centre and Rehabilitation Centre on the first floor, a
swimming pool in Phase-II and dedicated badminton facilities.
After the inauguration, Sandhu visited the DDA Aarambh Library in Rohini and interacted with students. With demand for the facility, he announced that an upper floor would be utilised to create more than 40 additional seats. DDA currently operates five Aarambh Libraries at Old Rajinder Nagar, Adhchini Village, Dwarka, Rohini and Vikaspuri.
