New Delhi, Sept. 20 -- Burari's long-standing road and drainage woes are set for a major overhaul, with the Delhi government drawing up a Rs 125-crore integrated plan to upgrade the entire 7.1-km Burari Road corridor and build a 9.3-km drainage network aimed at tackling waterlogging and improving connectivity.
PWD Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh inspected the Burari Road and adjoining drainage works on Sunday and reviewed the proposed plan with senior department officials.
Under the plan, the 3.2-km stretch between Outer Ring Road and Baba Colony and the Nathupura-Hiranki section will be reconstructed with bituminous roads, while the 3.9-km Baba Colony-Nathupura stretch will be developed as an RCC road at an estimated cost of Rs 39 crore. A central verge will also be constructed along the entire 7.1-km corridor.
Alongside the road works, the PWD has proposed a 9.3-km drainage network at an estimated cost of Rs 75 crore to tackle waterlogging in the area. The drainage work will include drains on both sides of the road between Amrit Vihar and Bengali Colony, besides drainage improvement on the Swaroop Nagar More-Burari Creek stretch.
The drainage work has already been tendered, while the road works are expected to be tendered within the next 10 days, according to the department.
"The entire corridor will be upgraded in an integrated manner. From the Outer Ring Road through Baba Colony and Nathupura up to Hiranki, the road will be improved according to the requirements of each stretch, while drainage infrastructure will be strengthened simultaneously," Singh said.
He directed officials to coordinate the road and drainage works and maintain quality standards during execution.
"Every stretch must be executed with proper planning and quality. The road and drainage works should be coordinated so that residents do not face repeated disruption and the infrastructure delivers a durable solution for Burari," he said. The department said the integrated approach was intended to prevent repeated digging of newly improved roads for drainage-related works and address road quality and waterlogging together.
Until reconstruction begins, PWD will undertake regular water sprinkling along the affected stretches as a dust-control measure.
