Kolkata, Oct. 2 -- The mother of rape-murder victim and BJP MLA Ratna Debnath has reportedly demanded an impartial inquiry into the role of CBI investigating officer Seema Pahuja, alleging serious lapses in the probe into her daughter's death.
Debnath said she remained dissatisfied with the CBI investigation and would continue her fight for justice. She questioned Pahuja's role and sought action against her.
The family has repeatedly raised questions over the CBI probe under Pahuja. She has received two gold medals for investigation and had earlier led the CBI team probing the Hathras case in Uttar Pradesh. She was then posted with the agency's Anti-Corruption Bureau in Ghaziabad.
Barrackpore MLA Kaustav Bagchi backed Debnath's demand, terming it justified, while declining to comment directly on Pahuja.
He said he would stand by the family in its fight for justice.
Pahuja was an additional superintendent of police when she was appointed investigating officer in the RG Kar case and was later promoted to superintendent of police.
Meanwhile, the High Court transferred the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the victim's cremation from the state police to the CBI SIT. A division bench of Justices Shampa Sarkar and Tirthankar Ghosh questioned why the police had failed to act despite the court having constituted a special investigation team.
The bench also expressed strong displeasure over the role of Khardah police.
