Ayodhya, Sept. 2 -- Retired Air Marshal Jeetendra Mishra has been appointed as the first Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, which oversees the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the temple trust in Ayodhya on Wednesday. Mishra, who served as the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Indian Air Force's Western Air Command, retired from service in April this year.
He brings extensive experience in leadership, strategic planning and administration from his nearly four-decade career in the Indian Air Force. He had also held several senior command and staff positions during his service.
Mishra's appointment follows a selection process in which 5,585 applications were received for the CEO position. A three-member committee shortlisted candidates before conducting further rounds of screening and interviews, including an in-person interaction in Ayodhya.
The trust also appointed three new members - Madan Mohan Pandey, Mahesh Bhagchandka and Nirmala Yadav - during the meeting.
The appointment of a full-time CEO is aimed at strengthening the administrative functioning of the trust as the Ram Temple complex continues to expand and attract large numbers of devotees.
The trust has been undergoing organisational changes, including the appointment of new office-bearers, as it works to streamline the management and administration of the temple complex.
