Kolkata, Nov. 4 -- Tension gripped the Deganga area after a local restaurant was vandalised and its employees assaulted, allegedly by a section of local BJP leaders and workers.
The incident, which took place late in the evening, has sparked widespread political outrage and triggered concerns over law and order in the locality.
According to sources, on Tuesday evening, a group of BJP leaders and workers entered the establishment and got involved in an altercation with the restaurant staff members citing that they illegally run sex racket at the place which the local people will not tolerate.
The restaurant authorities reportedly claimed that the local BJP leaders had demanded a hefty sum of money as extortion. When the restaurant management refused to comply with the monetary demands, the situation escalated into violence.
In a video that has gone viral, a BJP leader was seen taking money from the cashbox while a few BJP leaders and another party leader assaulted a restaurant staff. Millennium Post however, did not verify the authenticity of the video.

One of the directors of the hospital, Prabir Mukherjee in his complaint filed at the New Town Police Station claimed that on Tuesday, Biswas entered the hospital and vandalised the premises.
The staff members were also threatened to be killed if the premises were not vacated.
