New Delhi, Sept. 25 -- Residents of the Saraswati and Narmada multi-storeyed flats have protested against the DDA's proposed restructuring of the residential complex, alleging that the plan would reduce designated green spaces and expand commercial development.
The residents said the original 2001 layout provided for one Local Shopping Complex (LSC), along with five nursery schools and a library. They alleged the DDA now plans two LSCs and commercial or residential plots in areas marked as recreational and green zones.
They said the original plan earmarked 73,224 square metres of green and soft-green area, but the existing green cover is already less than the planned area.
Residents also raised concerns over the proposed highway and tunnel opening near Nelson Mandela Road, which they said would require the society's boundary wall to be shifted by about 7.5 metres.
On Friday, DDA personnel arrived with a JCB to begin construction, prompting a protest.
The residents have sought intervention from the DDA Vice-Chairman and demanded that the original layout be protected and any land-use changes follow
due process.
