Kolkata, Sept. 8 -- Bengal is likely to see another spell of widespread rain and thunderstorms on Wednesday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warning of heavy showers in several districts. The weather system over the Bay of Bengal is also likely to become more organised in the coming days, with a low-pressure area expected to form around September 11 over the west-central and northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas.
For Wednesday, most districts of South Bengal are likely to receive light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.
Heavy rain of 70-110 mm may occur at one or two places in East Burdwan, Hooghly and Bankura. Gusty winds of 30-40 kmph are also likely in several districts, including Kolkata, Howrah, North 24 Parganas, Purulia, Jhargram, West Burdwan, Birbhum, Murshidabad and Nadia.
The wet spell is likely to continue on Thursday, when heavy rain is expected in parts of East Midnapore, West Midnapore and South 24 Parganas. Thunderstorms and gusty winds may continue in several districts on Friday as well. The weather is likely to improve gradually from September 11, although scattered rain and thunderstorms may persist.
North Bengal, too, is expected to receive light to moderate rain over the next few days, with thunderstorms and lightning likely in several areas.
