Kolkata, Sept. 3 -- Heavy rain triggered land subsidence between Tildanga and New Farakka in Malda division on Thursday, causing a portion of the railway track to sink and disrupting services towards North Bengal.

Train movement was suspended as a precaution, affecting several long-distance services.

Eastern Railway cancelled the Kanchankanya Express, Gour Express, Darjeeling Mail, Padatik Express and Kanchanjungha Express, while the Uttarbanga Express was diverted via Bandel, Katwa, Azimganj and New Farakka.

Other trains were diverted or short-terminated. The IMD forecast heavy rain in several districts, with very heavy rain likely in parts of North Bengal.
