India, May 11 -- In a major boost to Delhi's transport infrastructure, the Railways has approved two crucial projects aimed at easing chronic traffic congestion in North-West Delhi. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday announced that the Railways has granted approval for the widening of the Railway Over Bridge (ROB) at Haiderpur-Badli on Outer Ring Road and also cleared the proposed elevated loop connecting Shalimar Bagh with Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar. According to the Chief Minister, both projects are expected to significantly reduce traffic bottlenecks around Mukarba Chowk, one of the busiest transit points in the capital, where thousands of commuters and commercial vehicles pass daily. She added that the implementation of the projects would provide "faster, safer and smoother connectivity to the public." The approvals came after extensive technical scrutiny and coordination between the Delhi Government's Public Works Department (PWD) and Northern Railway. The Railways issued an in-principle No Objection Certificate (NOC) after finding the proposals technically feasible. The Chief Minister said, "The Delhi Government is working at a fast pace to identify major traffic bottlenecks across the city and develop long-term solutions for them." She noted that Mukarba Chowk, Outer Ring Road and Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar remain among Delhi's most congested transport corridors. Thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for supporting the projects, Gupta said the coordinated efforts of the "double-engine government" are accelerating infrastructure reforms in the capital. She further stated that Delhi is being developed in line with the vision of "Viksit Bharat" and "Viksit Delhi," with emphasis on seamless and future-ready transport infrastructure.
