Kolkata, Sept. 19 -- Railway Board Chairman and CEO Satish Kumar on Saturday chaired a high-level review meeting with General Managers, Principal Heads of Departments and Divisional Railway Managers of zonal railways to assess safety performance and operational matters.

Kumar, along with Railway Board Members and senior officials, reviewed Eastern Railway's safety performance and progress of safety-critical works presented by General Manager Gitika Pandey.

The review covered strengthening safety management, CCTV surveillance, elimination and interlocking of Level Crossing gates, modernisation of signalling systems and implementation of KAVACH, the indigenous Automatic Train Protection system, particularly on the Delhi-Howrah route.

Infrastructure and passenger amenity works, including track maintenance, Road Over Bridges and Road Under Bridges, and measures to address waterlogging at subways and Limited Height Subways, were also discussed. Kumar emphasised sustained focus on safety, timely project completion and adoption of modern technology to strengthen railway operations.
