Raiganj, April 15 -- In a cyber fraud incident, the cell phone of Krishna Kalyani, Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate from Raiganj, was allegedly hacked, leading to the withdrawal of Rs 24.45 lakh from his bank account.
Kalyani lodged a formal complaint at the Raiganj Cyber Crime Police Station, alleging that the fraud may be part of a larger political conspiracy aimed at targeting him before the elections. According to his statement, he had suspected unusual activity on his mobile number nearly five days prior to the incident. Acting on this suspicion, he deactivated his old SIM card and obtained a new one. However, the problem persisted, raising further alarm.
Upon checking his bank account, Kalyani discovered that Rs 24.45 lakh had been siphoned off through online transactions, including Real-Time Gross Settlement (RTGS). After contacting his bank authorities, the fraudulent transactions were confirmed, prompting him to approach the cyber crime police.
Speaking on the matter, Kalyani said: "The incident took place just before the elections, which raises serious concerns. It could be a political conspiracy against me. I urge the cyber crime department to conduct a thorough investigation and bring the culprits to justice."
Kalyani, an industrialist by profession, entered politics in 2021 as a BJP candidate and won the Raiganj seat. He later joined the TMC and retained his political standing. Police have initiated an investigation into the matter.
