Chandigarh, Aug. 27 -- Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Thursday handed over appointment letters to 1,746 newly recruited police personnel, saying the induction would strengthen the force and create employment opportunities for the state's youth.
Addressing the recruits at the passing-out parade at PAP Ground, Phillaur, Mann said 13,092 personnel had joined the Punjab Police over the past four-and-a-half years, while recruitment of another 3,298 constables was underway.
He said 70,840 youth had received government jobs on merit under the "No Cash, No Farmaish" principle, with the recruitment process being transparent and free from recommendations.
Mann said the government had also approved 1,600 district-cadre posts in the police force -- 150 Inspectors, 450 Sub-Inspectors and 1,000 Assistant Sub-Inspectors -- to be filled through departmental promotions.
Calling upon the new recruits to serve people with professionalism and dedication, Mann said the Punjab Police had the additional responsibility of guarding the state's 532-km border with a hostile neighbour.
He said the force was also playing a key role in the government's anti-drug campaign.
