KOLKATA, July 9 -- Three days after Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited the Ballygunge residence of Padma Shri awardee Prosenjit Chatterjee, the Bengali superstar met Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari at Nabanna on Thursday.

The timing of the meeting further fuelled speculation about his political future, amid widespread buzz that the BJP could nominate him to the Rajya Sabha. However, after his meeting with the Chief Minister, the 'Autograph' actor dismissed the speculation.

Prosenjit said he had met the CM to discuss the Bengali film industry, with the primary focus being the birth centenary celebrations of matinee idol Uttam Kumar. The legendary actor, whose birth centenary falls on September 3 this year, remains one of the greatest icons of Bengali cinema. "I met with the CM and discussed the Bengali film industry and, most importantly, Uttam Kumar. He is our emotion. He is not only an icon of Bengali cinema but of the world. Even after 200 years, Uttam Kumar will continue to be celebrated," Prosenjit said.

The 'Jaatishwar' actor also made it clear that he has no plans to enter politics, stressing that meetings with political leaders do not necessarily revolve around

political discussions. "I am an actor and whenever I am required for the betterment of my industry, I will meet the CM. I am not joining politics, as the media is speculating," he said.

When asked whether he had been offered any position in a government body, particularly one related to the Bengali film industry, the actor said no such discussions had

taken place.
