Kolkata, May 14 -- State Panchayats and Rural Development (P&RD) minister Dilip Ghosh said on Thursday that the process of filling up of 6,500 posts in his department will soon be initiated to speed up work in the department.
"I have already held a meeting with secretary and senior officials of my department and we have a made a list of 6,500 staff whose recruitment is pending for quite some time. I will place this matter before the Chief Minister in the next Cabinet and set the ball rolling for recruitment," said Ghosh.
He maintained that work has been stalled in a number of cases due to a shortage of manpower, including planners and engineers, among others.
There are a number of employees who are deprived of their due payment. "Their cases will also be taken up on a priority basis," he added.
Ghosh has made a comprehensive review with all officials regarding the progress of various initiatives-including the Awas Yojana, Gram Sadak Yojana, MGNREGA (VB-G Ramji), and the National Rural Livelihoods Mission-along with other ongoing projects.
"It has been observed that the previous state government has squandered substantial funds provided by the Centre for multiple schemes-such as MGNREGA (VB-G Ramji)-by repeatedly diverting and utilising the same funds for a single project.
We are keeping a close watch on all these matters. Moving forward, we will work diligently to ensure that all operations are executed efficiently and that the people receive all services without hindrance," said Ghosh.
