Raiganj, Sept. 24 -- Police arrested the alleged prime accused in connection with the theft of cash and gold ornaments worth more than Rs. 1 crore from a private gold loan finance company at Itahar in North Dinajpur district. The accused, identified as Hasan Seikh (45), was arrested from the Baraua police station area of Jharkhand. He was brought back to Itahar on Wednesday night and produced before a court on Thursday.
According to police sources, the theft took place around three months ago when a group of miscreants allegedly broke into the private gold loan office at Chowrasta More in Itahar during the night. They reportedly stole a large amount of cash and gold ornaments worth more than Rs. 1 crore.
During the investigation, police arrested nine persons allegedly involved in the crime and recovered a portion of the stolen gold ornaments from their possession. Police said they received information from a source two days ago that the alleged prime accused was staying in the Baraua police station area of Jharkhand.
